Program Description

PbP Community Fund Award is a community scholarship program that provides financial support to community members, groups, organizations, or businesses, in alignment with our annual campaign theme. This year’s campaign theme focuses on Community Development, centered on community control, preservation of cultural institutions, and support for AAPI-owned businesses. This program aims to provide support to local restaurants that faced financial loss during the period when the curfew was in place. 

Award Details

  • Award amounts will vary based on annual selection criteria and will not exceed $500 per business. 

  • Awards will be disbursed in the following method:

    • A check written in the name of the business within 30 days of award verification.

Eligibility

  • The restaurant must be located in the curfew zone designated by the City of Los Angeles from June 10 to June 16, 2025. 

  • The restaurant must be a brick-and-mortar establishment with a physical storefront.

  • A restaurant is defined as any facility that prepares and sells food or drink directly to consumers for immediate consumption.

  • Applicants must submit completed W-9 forms to be considered.

  • Eligible businesses must have the ability to provide financial records (e.g. gross receipts, payroll taxes, bank statements or other financial information).

Businesses Not Eligible

  • Applications that are found to contain false or misleading information are subject to disqualification.

  • The following business types:

    • Food trucks

    • Street food vendors

Application Requirements

To apply to the PbP LA Community Fund, please complete the online application which includes:

  • 2 short essays (between 100 - 300 words per prompt) addressing the following:

    • Short Essay #1: Describe how the events of June 6-17 have negatively impacted your business.

    • Short Essay #2: How has your organization given back to the Los Angeles AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) community in the past?

  • Demonstration of financial need with one of the following:

    • Document upload (including but not limited to):

      • Documentation of negative financial impact within the past 3 months

    • OR an additional essay (100 - 250 words) outlining your unique circumstances for applying this award.

Campaign Theme: Community Development

For 2025 the Project by Project Community Fund Award program will be aligned with our 2025 campaign theme of Community Development. One of three core concepts of community development we are focusing on is “Support for Small Businesses - Ensuring entrepreneurs have access to the capital, education, and networks needed for long-term success.” The Community Fund Award program will be targeted towards local restaurants that demonstrate a financial constraint from June 6, 2025, to present. 

Terms and Conditions

  • Selected recipients of the Community Fund Award will receive a $500.00 check.

  • Only one application per business is allowed per Community Fund Award cycle (typically once per calendar year).

Application Timeline 

  • Applications will be accepted from Monday, July 7, 2025, through Sunday, August 10, 2025 (11:59 PM PST)

Selection Process

  • Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis in the order they are received by a selection committee consisting of PbP Steering Committee members. 

  • All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and determined by a holistic review and rubric that includes the overall impact of the award to the business. Granted awards for the Community Fund Award are not guaranteed.

  • PbP shall not discriminate on the basis of a person’s national origin, race, color, religion, disability, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, or military status.

  • Applicants will be notified of a final decision no later than August 31, 2025.

  • PbP reserves the right to close the application cycle early if more than 30 applicants are received.
