PbP SF Announces 2011 Partner - OASES PDF Print E-mail

MARCH 10, 2011 – San Francisco, CA – Project by Project San Francisco, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on issues affecting the Asian American community, is pleased to announce the selection of Oakland Asian Student Education Services (OASES) as its 2011 partner organization. This will be the second campaign partnership for PbP SF since its inception in September 2009 with this year’s theme being “Asian Americans and Education.” Through this partnership with OASES, we hope to increase public awareness, expand the volunteer base, and raise funds for its much needed programs.

OASES empowers students from low-income households through education, mentorship, and service in order to strengthen the Oakland community. OASES has multiple programs that provide youth with opportunities not often offered at their schools including peer leadership, environmental education, diversity education, financial literacy, and the arts. All of OASES’ services are intended for students in Oakland’s Unified School District with limited resources from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

As part of PbP's year-long campaign on Asian Americans and Education, we've collaborated with CAAM to present the documentary THE LEARNING.

Spurred on by No Child Left Behind mandates and the difficulty in finding qualified applicants for hard-to-fill, underpaid teaching positions in math, science and special education, many American schools have begun recruiting teachers from abroad, including places as faraway as the Philippines. THE LEARNING is directed by Ramona Diaz, the award-winning director of IMELDA and SPIRITS RISING.
