Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE)

PbP Southern California is proud to announce CAUSE as our new partner for 2008.

Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization with a mission to advance the political empowerment of the Asian Pacific American community through voter registration and education, community outreach and leadership development.

BACKGROUND

Founded in 1993, CAUSE is comprised of committed professional, business, community and political leaders, and has established itself as a unique non-partisan APA organization dedicated solely to APA civic and political participation. Based in the Greater Los Angeles area, CAUSE?s influence reaches throughout California.

PROGRAMS

  • California Asian American Student Internship Coalition (CASIC) Leadership Academy:
This program administered by CAUSE has trained and graduated over 100 APA college leaders to be proactive and engaged in the public sector and in community advocacy work. Over half of our graduates have gained positions as legislative staffers, nonprofit staffers, and have succeeded in attaining elected office.
  • CAUSE Political Institute:
CAUSE administers the Political Institute, made up of three programs:
      1) Candidates Training
      2) Annual Statewide APA Elected and Appointed Officials Conference
      3) Community Political Summit
  • CAUSE Next Generation Project:
This program connects the next generation of Asian Pacific American leaders from the region?s top law firms and corporations with APA officials, judges and community leaders who serve as mentors to help future leaders understand and navigate the nexus of politics and power in the legal, political, and public service professions.
  • Elected Official Meet and Greet:
Over the past 14 years, CAUSE has provided community access to prominent political leaders through special Meet and Greet receptions. Guests have included Presidential Candidates John Edwards and Jack Kemp, Governor Gary Locke, and Mayor James Hahn, among others.
  • Voter Education and Outreach:
Through our culturally-sensitive methods of voter registration and voter outreach efforts since inception, we have organized over 250 voter registration drives, registered over 20,000 APA eligible voters, assisted another 10,000 voters through our multi-lingual voter assistance toll-free hotline.
