FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PROJECT BY PROJECT LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES 2011 PARTNER - ASIAN YOUTH CENTER (AYC)

Project by Project-Los Angeles (PbP-LA) is proud to announce the Asian Youth Center (AYC) as our 2011 partner! Over 100 distinguished guests from the LA Asian American community joined us in celebration at the official unveiling last Thursday at Gyenari Restaurant in Culver City.

This year, Project by Project has selected "Education" as the national theme, a topic that has gained increasing national attention and has drawn out major concerns on our education system. For the API community, the model minority stereotype has made fundraising and development of educational programs and services very challenging. The high success rate of more established Asian communities tends to overlook the plight of recent first-generation immigrants.

PbP-LA is excited to address some of these concerns by partnering with AYC, a non-profit, community based organization that has been aiding low-income and minority youth and their families in the Los Angeles area since 1989. AYC facilitates youth and their families to succeed in a multi-cultural society by offering several programs and services from after-school tutoring, delinquency prevention, SAT course prep, to health education.

Project by Project Los Angeles’s partnership campaign will focus on increasing AYC’s volunteer base, raising the visibility of its mission, and supporting funding for its much needed programs.  AYC will also be the beneficiary of PbP-LA’s highly anticipated Plate by Plate Annual Tasting Benefit on August 6th, as well as, other fundraisers throughout the year.

On behalf of PbP-LA, chapter president, JT Kim expressed, “we look forward to learning more and growing as advocates for...improving education in the API community... It's exciting to connect our network of volunteers and resources to benefit the amazing work that AYC is engaged in.”
