Project by Project Receives the Prestigious “Fulfilling the Dream Award” from New York’s CBS2
New York, NY (January 24, 2002) – National non-profit organization, Project by Project (PbP) has been awarded the “Fulfilling the Dream” Award from New York’s CBS2 network. Each year, in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, CBS2 honors select organizations or individuals that actively contribute to and make a significant impact on the community at large.
“We are extremely honored to be receiving such an inspirational award from CBS2”, says PbP New York President Irene Law. “PbP’s goal since its inception has been to dynamically impact our community and this recognition truly reinforces our mission to continue assisting non-profit organizations.”
By supporting non -profit groups with fundraising, outreach programs and public awareness, PbP gives a significant boost to its annual partner’s work and level of impact on the community at large. The “Fulfilling the Dream” Award recognizes PbP’s work in 2002 with the Asian Professional Extension (APEX), an organization dedicated to the personal and educational development of underprivileged Asian youth. Outreach programs that PbP held with APEX included costume making with 5th graders at P.S. 1, a visit with those same students to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a college preparation workshop series and a 4th grade prep program at P.S.1. PbP volunteers continue to assist APEX in its Mentoring Program and additional test prep programs.
“The vision that PbP has carried out in its work has challenged me to expand my own concepts of community and philanthropy,” says Kerry Heffernan, Executive Chef of Eleven Madison Park and the Event Chair of PbP’s annual Food and Wine Tasting Benefit. The Benefit is PbP’s main fundraising event of the year and proceeds raised are donated to the non-profit partner. The October 2002 Benefit featured 25 of New York’s most renowned chefs and was attended by over 650 people.
PbP will announce this year’s non-profit partner in early Spring 2003. ### Project by Project (PbP) was founded in New York in 1998 by young Asian American professionals committed to effecting social change by developing innovative methods for raising awareness, volunteerism and capital for the non-profit community. Every year, each PbP chapter partners with a different non-profit community-based organization to help the organization fulfill three main campaign goals: fundraising, community outreach and public awareness. Past partners include the New York Asian Women’s Center, CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities, the Queens Child Guidance Center’s Asian Outreach Clinic, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, the Asian American Federation of New York’s WTC Fund and APEX.
