“No To Fear. No To Abuse. Yes To Freedom.”
Project by Project's charity partner, ECPAT-USA (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography & Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) developed the NYC Community Response to Trafficking (CRT) project
( http://www.nyctrafficking.org ) under the umbrella
of human rights advocacy to battle human trafficking
in our city.
On a warm Sunday afternoon under the trees of Sunset Park (Brooklyn), CRT held a street-theater play, with actors using puppetry and colorful props, which illustrated a young girl’s journey from her entrapment as a forced labor trafficking victim to her fight for freedom. The performance was done in Spanish & Mandarin mixed with English to reach out to the community’s predominant Chinese and Mexican audiences. Importantly, the play was highlighted with information on how potential victims can get help.
Beyond the excitement of the play, PbP volunteers helped further enliven the park with family and kids activities – face-painting, balloon animals, drawing,
and portraitures. This event was truly grass-root and effective in its effort to educate the importance of freedom to a targeted community. ECPAT & CRT are looking to replicate “Sunset Park” in other communities in the coming months. If you are interested in volunteering, please write to natalie.jiaravanont@projectbyproject.org.
Sunset Park event was hosted by CRT in collaboration with IOFA (International Organization for Adolescents), Lutheran Family Health Center & Medical Center, and New York Asian Women Center. A Big Thanks to all the dedicated, fun PbP volunteers that helped out tirelessly at this worthwhile event. |
