Project by Project welcomes Asian Professional Extension, Inc. (APEX) as our partner for our 2002 Campaign!
APEX, founded in 1992, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the personal and educational development of underprivileged, urban Asian American youth through long lasting relationships with Asian American role models. APEX is the only organization of its size and scope offering one-to-one mentoring for Asian American youth. Through such relationships, youth are able to build their self-confidence, explore academic and career goals, develop a sense of community and service, broaden their horizons, develop leadership skills, embrace their Asian American identity, and most of all, cultivate valuable relationships. APEX currently has an active membership of over 420 adults and students and has contributed to the personal development of nearly a thousand young people.
In addition to its mentoring program, APEX also runs an SAT/college prep program and test preparation programs for P.S. 1 4th graders and I.S. 131 8th graders.
In our partnership this year, PbP will raise funds and provide volunteers for a variety of programs, including the following:
- Revamping APEX's college and other test preparation programs
- Designing a community day for the fall
- Assisting with costume design for the P.S. 1 annual show
- Designing a series of workshops on such topics as leadership and careers
- The potential hiring of a caseworker for the mentoring program
