Asian American Writers' Workshop

The Asian American Writers' Workshop, established in 1991, is a community based, non-profit literary arts organization, dedicated to the creation, development, publication and dissemination of literature by Asians Americans. In its office space, the Workshop houses the Asian American Bookseller, the most comprehensive book store in the world focusing on Asian American literature. Among its publications are The Asian Pacific American Journal, Ten magazine, and various anthologies. The Workshop also holds a reading series and writing workshops, facilitated by experienced writers and teachers. One of the Workshop's most successful programs has been its CreateNow youth program for New York high school students. 25 students meet each Saturday for ten weeks to read Asian American literature, explore different mediums of expression and create their own pieces of literature.
In support of the Asian American Writers' Workshop, PbP recruited volunteers and raised funds to accomplish the following:
- The projected publication in Fall 2003 of AAWW's next anthology, "Documents of The Reconstruction: Asian American Essays on War & Conflict"
- AAWW readings and events
- Panel discussions by AAWW writers in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston and NYC
- Renovation of AAWW's office space, including painting the ceiling and varnishing bookshelves
